History of Tetris Game:
Tetris is a puzzle video game which was released on 6th of June, 1984. Tetris was programmed by Alexey Paijitnov along with his assistants Dmitry Pavlovsky and Vadim Gerasimov. The inventors of Tetris had already been programming psychological games but none of their other games enjoyed such a fame as Tetris did.
Game Layout:
Tetris is played on a 10x20 grid known as Matrix. Shapes known as Tetriminos fall from the top of matrix with one Tetrimino falling at a time. There are seven shapes of Tetriminos each made up of four small squares known as Minos.
How to Play Tetris:
Using the arrow keys you can adjust the Tetriminos i.e. where and in which form these Tetriminos should fall. For example, with left and right arrow key the player can slide the Tetriminos on the matrix and with up arrow key player can change the shape of Tetriminos by 90 degrees. This means each time the player presses the up arrow key the shape of Tetrimino is changed by 90 degree in clockwise direction. As soon as the Tetrimino hits the base of matrix or hits the last fallen Tetrimino it is locked meaning neither the player can slide it nor can change its shape. At this point the next Tetrimino will begin to fall.
The main task in Tetris is to make Tetriminos fall in a way so that instead of falling on the top of each other they line up evenly at the bottom of the matrix. Lining up means that a horizontal line should be made by strategically placing the squares of Tetriminos. As soon as a horizontal line is formed up it vanishes and the player gets points. This helps in matrix not to be filled up by irregularly placed Tetriminos which is the goal of the game. As soon as the uniform lining up of the Tetriminos is lost, the Tetriminos start falling on the top of each other and hence start filling up the matrix till a time comes when there is no more available space in the matrix to accommodate another Tetrimino which ends the game.
Again the rule is to clear up horizontal lines as much as possible which gain the player points. In case the player manages to vanish multiple lines with one single shot, he gets lots of extra points. This way player keeps on playing until a time comes where there is no more possibility to make up horizontal lines and hence the matrix in the end has no more space to accommodate the new Tetriminos which ends up the game.
Playing Modes:
The game has different modes i.e. Easy, Medium and Advanced modes. In Easy mode, the Tetriminos are falling very slowly and hence the player gets enough time to try different shapes of the Tetriminos to see which one fits well. In Hard mode, the Tetriminos are falling very swiftly and hence the user has a limited time to decide and shape up the Tetrimino before it falls on the already present Tetriminos.
